Sales used to give me the willies. Big willies. Big Willie Style. (I was pretty good at it, but I assumed nobody wanted to be sold to and always just felt kinda dirty about it.)
Then I met Catherine Brown, who introduced me to the idea of selling without sleaze. The woman literally wrote the book on it, called How Good Humans Sell: The Proven Path to B2B Sales Success. (It’s worth the buy and free if you have Kindle Unlimited!)
She’s bringing up the rear for this series because I wanted to be sure I went out on a “BAZINGA!” When you get done reading, be sure to sign up for a drop-in visit to her coaching group. You need some of her energy. 👇
Don’t you hate it when you have to pursue new business? I know how it feels. No one wants to come across as the stereotypical sleazy salesperson — including me!
While we can’t be in control of the way people react to us, we can be in control of the way we treat other people and what we think about ourselves in sales. If we believe sales is sleazy, then it’s likely this mindset causes us to avoid prospecting activities.
I believe sales is honorable and can actually be a source of joy.
Here’s why:
🎉 People matter and it is a privilege to talk to people and listen to their needs.
🎉 It is a pleasure to find ways to meet their needs and share happiness over their success.
🎉 Even if a person chooses not to buy from me, I can still be helpful now AND I’m building a network of people I may be able to help in the future.
🎉 I enjoy hearing about new industries and services.
🎉 There are new things to do and learn each day.
🎉 Sales is a means by which I grow as a person.
…Should I go on?
Do you see how reframing the way you think about sales creates new enthusiasm for what you do? A little change in mindset goes a long way toward meeting your business goals.
So make a list of what you like about sales. Post it where you can see it and review it often.
Does it “spark joy” for you?
Message me on LinkedIn and share your list with me. I’d love to read it.
Catherine
