Humans fear change and crave a safe haven of consistency. That’s where a rock-solid brand comes in.
Weekly email archives and occasional extra words that don't have a home anywhere else on my site.
“I’ve never seen Rosemary with rage in her eyes like that.”
When my husband came to bed last Wednesday, he told me our two younger cats had jumped the resident OG feline, Brixie.
I’d heard the otherworldly howling but missed the frantic scrambling and fur flying.
My trusted longtime veterinarian, Dr. Google, told me a sick cat’s scent can change, and even the slightest change in scent can make other cats flip the F out.
Talk about a vibe check gone wrong.
They’ve been separated for days now… Another short-lived attempt at socialization last night quickly devolved into a battle royale.
Brixie has achieved Peak Aging Feline™ and is currently snoozing on her favorite blanket in blissful isolation. (Meanwhile, like my kittens, I am flipping the F out.)
Customers can be a lot like cats:
🐈⬛ They lurk in the shadows, waiting for a sign they can trust you.
🐈⬛ They remain aloof until you give them treats. (My cats are Churu whores, though I can’t recommend meat tubes for humans.)
🐈⬛ And at the slightest whiff of change, they’ll turn on you. ⏰💣
Humans fear change and crave a safe haven of consistency.
And that’s where a rock-solid brand comes in.
And — you guessed it — your brand voice is a big part of passing the vibe check without a catfight.
I named my original freebie “Win Hearts With Words” and this email “Words Matter” for a reason.
Words can truly have the power of Cupid’s arrow.
(What, you thought you’d get out of this without some Valentine’s Day B.S.? 💓)
Knowing what you want to say and how you’re going to say it, then holding it up to your dream customer like Lloyd Dobler’s boombox, is the way to capturing trust and building lasting relationships.
So what’ll come out of those boombox speakers when you press play?
As another John Cusack character would say:
“The making of a great compilation tape is a very subtle art. Many dos and don’ts. … You’ve gotta kick off with a killer, to grab attention…”
Not everyone will fall in love with you, but when someone discovers that you’re The One?
It’s up to you to make sure those heart eyes emoji stick around forever.
Candy is 50% off at Walgreens tomorrow,
P.S. What’s your take on pluralizing emoji? Emojis? Also, how do you pronounce “GIF”? This is what I think about when I’m not CAT-astrophizing.
