I chatted with Julia Block Pearson of Stratos Creative about brand voice and what it means to be an ethical, empathetic marketer.
Weekly email archives and occasional extra words that don't have a home anywhere else on my site.
You’ll be stir crazy in no time, they said.
You’ll be itching to get back to the office, they said.
Here’s a live look at me attempting a return to work after a 10-day vacation, major surgery, and three weeks of recovery:
Inbox Zero has never been more of a pipe dream.
My password manager has left me for dead and is making me log in again.
Pretty sure I’ve forgotten how to use Zoom.
Y’all, what in the hayl is work?
This is “day after a long weekend” vibes — on steroids. (Or oxy, which I weaned off of as quickly as possible because I was already getting opioid-addiction treatment ads on Instagram four days in.)
I can think of several occasions during the past month (woof) where I thought, “Ooh, I should make a note to write an email about that!”
Narrator: She did not make a note. She did not write an email about that.
But I do have something to share with you today:
I sat down last month with my StoryBrand comrade Julia Block Pearson of Stratos Creative to talk about brand voice and what it means to be an ethical, empathetic copywriter and marketer.
I can — and do — talk ad nauseam about this. It’s what I care about most in the [professional] world.
Among my top tips shared during this episode: Let people turn up their noses at you.
It’s just as important to allow the “wrong” folks to politely excuse themselves from the table as it is to holler “yooooo, I’m your people!” to your people.
Repurpose your content.
Reinforce your messages.
And be unlikeable — well, to some.
(Oh, and record podcast episodes with rad people. That’s a good tip, too.)
P.S. I never listen to podcast episodes I’m featured in. Hate the sound of my own voice.
P.P.P.S. I’m putting out one more huge thank-you to the geniuses who contributed to my Shine Theory series while I was out… Missed their emails? Read ’em here.
